NOVA Hope for Haiti sent a team of six volunteers to our clinic to check up on the non-medical operation of our mission and to follow-up on our Hurricane Matthew relief efforts. We spent our week working with our staff, visiting the first phase of homes NOVA rebuilt with our Hurricane Relief fund, and meeting with the Mayor of Cavaillon to discuss additional ways we can provide help following the Hurricane. We also conducted a mobile medical clinic (click here to learn more about NOVA’s mobile missions) and performed general maintenance in our clinic and residence.
These non-medical missions are crucial to the continued success of our overall mission. We were able to observe the day-to-day operations of both our Martineau and Boileau locations. We inventoried both the pharmacy and residence. We went through every room in our building identifying repairs and items that need to be purchased/replaced.
We spent a great deal of time on our 12 acres of property and talked with the local agriculture people to develop plans to plant fruit and vegetable bearing trees. Our property has the capacity to provide produce a substantial amount of food for our community and we are working on developing a co-op program with the local families. This will take time but we are committed to utilizing our land to its fullest potential.
While NOVA’s primary mission continues to be providing primary medical care to the community of Cavaillon, our ability to improve the overall health and well-being of the people using the assets we have increases the impact we have on those we serve.
